palavras inglesas

hey gang
so I need some contributions today... my english teacher here requested I write up a list of English slang words for the class (complete with definitions and possibly examples). I'm trying to avoid ones that if said unwittingly by a Brazilian in the US would get him/her in trouble, but anything else is fair game.

got any ideas?

Chill: 1. relax 2.awesome 3. that's okay
e.g Edgar: Is it okay if I borrow some money?
Agnes: That's chill

Legit: 1. Cool or tight
e.g Prof. Plum: It was Ms. Scarlett in the ball room with the led pipe. I guess that means it wasn't you, Colonel Mustard.
Col. Mustard: That's legit.

I'll leave the rest up to some others.

Love, Wiggins

Madisyn! Sorry it's taken so long for me to comment - I've been down in CA, trying to resolve this issue with my grandfather, and (!) I found a baby squirrel!! I am now nursing her back to health. Her name is Ninkasi and she is about five weeks old.

I'm glad to hear that its going well in Brazil, and I'm jealous that they have you and I don't, but I guess you have enough awesomeness enough to share. And you got your ears pierced! Wow! I'll have to send you some earrings.

As for slang, I've been trying to think, but could only come up with:
a) Yo (that's slang, right?!?!)
b) Bad (as in good)
c) Tight (though, I see this was previously mentioned, but taking it away would totally screw up my list)
d) What's up?
e) How's it hanging?
and erm... f) sweet?

I'ma send you a letter, yo! :)
Cheers!
Emily

Hey ^_^ Christian here. I happen to consider myself somewhat of an expert on random slang, so lemme see...

Sweet

Adj.
An intensive used to express satisfaction, acceptance, pleasure, excellence, exaltation, approval, awe, or reverence. When used individually, the level of satisfaction expressed is most often directly proportionate to the duration of the vowel sound.
"Mashed potatoes for dinner. Sweet."
"I just won a million dollars? SWEEEEEEET!"

Dog

1. An type of animal often used as a pet often referred to as "mans best friend"
2. What males often refer to close friends as.
3. A person that takes off and leaves you, be they male or female.

1. My friend said her dog has fleas, she thinks he got them from humping the dog across the road.
2. MIKE D: You whud up mah dog?
MC G: Nuthin' nuthin' i'm aiight how are you?
3. My friend Ayjay is a dog. We were at the shops together and when he saw his friend he left me by myself. His girlfriend is also a dog she dogged him at a dance because she got bored.

And my personal favorite...

Mellow

1. n. A man's composure or chill factor.
Dude, don't be so harsh on my mellow.

Okay, I'm no expert, but Urban Dictionary is amazingness embodied (and where I stole these from). Hope I was helpful xP

From someone who grew up in the 70's/80's and may be totally out of touch -
1. "bitchin", "rad", the overuse/misuse of "awesome" which all mean "cool" - another slang word.
2. Dude
3. "like totally" with the Valley Girl accent, and "gag me with a spoon for sure".
4. words for cute/attractive - a total babe, a fox, a hunk,
5. physique terms - "ripped"(muscular) "stacked" (large chested female); "muffin top" - the pooch that sits over the waistline of your pants; "beer belly"
6. words for friends - pal, chum, (not fish bait), bros, homies, home slice, etc, my boy, my posse,

Good luck Madisyn! I enjoyed your blog and added it to my favorites. Alyssa C's mom, Jennifer
